Hillside Remodeling in the Hollywood Hills
Retaining, access and haul routes come first here, and the reward is a view pool.
Building Here
Our Home Turf and Our Hardest Work
The Hollywood Hills is the most technically demanding work we do, and it is effectively our home turf: our base sits at Cahuenga Pass, inside the same hills. These are engineering projects before they are design projects. Caissons, retaining, access and haul routes get resolved first, and the reward is the kind of elevated, view-forward pool that is simply not possible on a flat lot.
Steep, view-first parcels where structure and access drive both the schedule and the budget. This is the most engineering-heavy work we do, and it is on our doorstep.
The team that plans your Hollywood Hills project is the team that builds it.

Permits in Hollywood Hills
Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS)
Private pools in the City of Los Angeles are permitted through a Combined Building-Mechanical permit, while pools serving more than two dwelling units need separate building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits. Using a City of Los Angeles standard plan on file with LADBS reduces plan check time.
Nearly all of the Hollywood Hills sits in the Hillside Grading Area under the Baseline Hillside Ordinance, and much of it is in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. Grading needs its own LADBS grading permit, and import or export of more than 1,000 cubic yards also needs a haul route approved by the Board of Building and Safety Commissioners after a public hearing.
Large parts of the area also fall inside a Hillside Construction Regulation district, which adds grading, hauling and construction-hour limits.
Permit details checked September 2026 against LADBS and City of Los Angeles. Rules change, so we confirm them again for your parcel.
What We Plan For
- Caisson and engineered retaining systems
- Restricted-access excavation and crane planning
Steep parcels usually require caissons and engineered retaining before a pool shell can be formed
Narrow canyon roads restrict truck size, so excavation and concrete logistics are planned around access
View-driven design favors elevated decks, infinity edges and glass-tile finishes
Fire-zone clearance rules influence planting, decking material and structure placement
